A calculator is allowed. Unless a question says otherwise, take g = 9.8 m s⁻² and give answers to 2 or 3 significant figures. Mechanics 1 is one of the units for the Edexcel International A level in Mathematics, and it is sat in the January, June and October series.

Frequently asked questions

Are these Edexcel IAL Mechanics 1 questions from real exams?

No. They are original questions written by our tutors in the style of the Edexcel IAL Mechanics 1 exam, so we can give full worked solutions. For real exam questions, use the official Edexcel IAL Mechanics 1 past papers, which we link to with their scoring guidelines.

Do I need an account?

No. Everything is free and there is no sign-up. Your progress is saved in your own browser on this device, and you can reset it on any unit page.

How should I use these alongside past papers?

Use the unit practice while you learn each topic, then move to timed past papers once you have covered most of the course. When a past paper question goes wrong, come back to that unit's questions.

Why do the chapters start at 2?

We follow the chapter numbers of the Pearson Edexcel International A level Mechanics 1 student book, so you can match each page to your textbook. Chapter 1, mathematical models in mechanics, is about modelling assumptions, so we have built those questions into every chapter.

Which value of g should I use?

Use g = 9.8 m s−2 unless a question tells you otherwise. Because 9.8 is only given to 2 significant figures, Edexcel expects final answers to 2 or 3 significant figures when you have used it.

Where are the real WME01 past papers?

Pearson publishes past papers and mark schemes on its Edexcel International A level Mathematics page, which our past papers link above goes to. Use our chapter practice while you learn each topic, then move on to full timed papers.
