What we cover in Precalculus
Precalculus is usually grade 11, or grade 10 on an advanced track. Every topic of the course, taught 1-on-1 at your pace and in your class's order.
- Functions, transformations and inverses
- Polynomial and rational functions
- Exponential and logarithmic functions and models
- Trigonometric functions and the unit circle
- Trig identities and equations
- Polar coordinates and complex numbers
- Vectors and parametric equations
- Sequences, series and an introduction to limits
- AP Precalculus units 1 to 3, for the May exam
How we plan your Precalculus classes
Adapted after your free demo class: we spend the time where it matters most for you.
- Find the gapsYour free demo class starts with a few questions to see which earlier skills are solid and which need work.
- Fix the foundationsWe fill those gaps first, because most trouble in Precalculus comes from a skill from an earlier course.
- Keep ahead of classEach week we work on your homework and the next topic your teacher will cover, so class makes sense the first time.
- Prepare for testsUnit tests and finals, and the AP Precalculus exam in May for AP students, with timed practice and an error log.
Try two Precalculus questions
Typical class-test questions. Have a go, then open the worked solution.
Precalculus · question 1
Solve 2 sin θ − 1 = 0 for 0 ≤ θ < 2π.
Show the worked solution
- Rearrange: sin θ = 1/2.
- On the unit circle, sine is 1/2 in quadrant I at π/6.
- Sine is also positive in quadrant II: π − π/6 = 5π/6.
- Answer: θ = π/6 or 5π/6.
Precalculus · question 2
For f(x) = (x² − 4) / (x² − x − 2), find the hole, the vertical asymptote and the horizontal asymptote.
Show the worked solution
- Factor: f(x) = (x − 2)(x + 2) / ((x − 2)(x + 1)).
- x − 2 cancels, so there is a hole at x = 2, where the simplified function gives (2 + 2)/(2 + 1) = 4/3.
- The remaining denominator is zero at x = −1: a vertical asymptote.
- The degrees match, so the horizontal asymptote is the ratio of leading coefficients, 1/1.
- Answer: Hole at (2, 4/3), vertical asymptote x = −1, horizontal asymptote y = 1.
Where Precalculus leads
Each course builds on the one before, so a strong Precalculus makes the next class easier.
Algebra 1 → Geometry → Algebra 2 → Precalculus → AP Calculus AB or BC
AP Physics 1 also uses algebra and trigonometry from these courses on almost every question.

Questions
How much does it cost?
$30 an hour for a live 1-on-1 class. Your first demo class is free, with nothing to pay and nothing to sign.
Which grade is Precalculus for?
Precalculus is usually grade 11, or grade 10 on an advanced track in most US schools. We teach regular, honors and Pre-AP versions, following your school's syllabus.
Do you teach AP Precalculus?
Yes. One of our students scored 5/5 on AP Precalculus in 2026. We cover the course units and practise the exam's question styles.
When are classes?
Every day between 6pm and 10pm in your US time zone, Eastern, Central, Mountain or Pacific.
How do classes work?
Each class is a live 1-on-1 video session with your tutor, built around your homework, class notes and upcoming tests. Sessions are recorded so you can rewatch them.
Do you offer classes in my area?
Every class is live 1-on-1 online, so you can learn Precalculus with us wherever you live in the US, with no travel.
How do I pay?
