When IB results come out
- May session: results are on the IB candidate website from 12:00 GMT on 6 July. In India, that is 5:30 pm IST.
- Schools: coordinators receive results a day earlier, on 5 July, so your school may contact you before you can log in.
- November session: results are released in early January.
How to see your results
- Get your personal code and PIN from your IB coordinator before you leave school.
- Log in to the IB candidate results website at the release time.
- You will see a grade from 1 to 7 for each subject, your TOK and extended essay grades, your total points and whether you have been awarded the diploma.
If you cannot log in, contact your coordinator, not the IB directly.
Reading your results
- Total points: out of 45, from six subjects and up to 3 core points.
- Diploma awarded or not: this depends on the passing conditions, not just the total. See IB points and diploma requirements.
- Subject grades: universities often set conditions on specific HL grades, so check those first.
If you met your offer
Congratulations. Universities receive results directly in many systems, such as UCAS in the UK. Follow each university's instructions, and if you applied to universities in India, check how they want IB grades submitted or converted.
If you missed your offer
- Contact the university quickly. Some accept near misses, especially if other grades are strong.
- Consider an enquiry upon results (a re-mark) through your coordinator, if you were close to a grade boundary. There are deadlines and fees, and grades can go down as well as up.
- Look at alternatives: other universities, clearing in the UK, or retaking subjects in November or the next May.
Is a re-mark worth it?
A student needs a 6 in Physics HL and got a 5. The coordinator says the paper total was 2 marks below the 6 boundary. Should they ask for a re-mark?
- Being just below a boundary is the situation where a re-mark is most often worth considering.
- Talk to the coordinator about the risk: marks can also go down.
- Meanwhile, contact the university to explain that an enquiry is in progress.
Converting for an Indian university
An Indian university asks for a percentage. What should a student do?
- Check the university's own rules first: many publish how they treat IB grades.
- If needed, ask your school for guidance on any conversion the university accepts.
- Do not invent your own conversion on an application.
Before results day
- Save your personal code and PIN somewhere safe.
- Know each university's conditions so you can check them in seconds.
- Know the re-mark deadlines from your coordinator.
What you see on the results page
- Each subject: a grade from 1 to 7, with the level (HL or SL).
- TOK and the extended essay: grades from A to E, and the core points they earn together.
- Total: your points out of 45.
- Diploma result: whether the diploma has been awarded.
Course candidates
Students who take individual IB courses instead of the full diploma receive a grade for each course on the same day. There is no points total or diploma decision, but universities can still use the course grades.
A results-day checklist
- Have your personal code and PIN ready before 12:00 GMT.
- Write down each subject grade, your TOK and EE grades and your total.
- Check whether the diploma has been awarded.
- Compare each grade with your university conditions, starting with HL requirements.
- If you are close to a boundary or missed a condition, contact your coordinator about enquiries the same day.
- Contact universities that need to hear from you, and keep copies of every email.
More questions
Can I see my marks, not just grades?
The results website shows grades. Your coordinator can explain what is available after results, including through enquiry services.
What if the website is busy at 12:00 GMT?
Many students log in at the same moment. If the site is slow, wait a few minutes and try again; your results will not disappear.
Do universities get my results automatically?
The IB sends results to universities you have asked it to send them to, through your coordinator, and to some admission systems such as UCAS. Check with your coordinator which universities will receive them.
Is there a results day for the November session?
Yes. November-session results are released in early January, in the same way, through the candidate website.
Common mistakes
- Losing your login details and waiting days to recover them.
- Looking only at the total and missing a failing condition or an HL grade requirement.
- Leaving it too late to contact universities after a near miss.
- Requesting a re-mark without understanding that grades can go down.

Frequently asked questions
Why are IB results released on 6 July?
The IB releases May-session results on a fixed date each year, so schools, students and universities can plan.
Can my school tell me my results early?
Schools receive results a day early, but policies on sharing them vary. Ask your coordinator.
Can I retake the IB?
Yes. You can usually retake subjects in a later session to raise grades, with your school's support.
