Your exam board's papers

We follow your syllabus exactly. Checked against Cambridge and Pearson in October 2026.

Cambridge International AS and A Level Physics (9702)

  • Paper 1: Multiple choice AS, 40 questions
  • Paper 2: AS structured questions AS
  • Paper 3: Advanced practical skills AS
  • Paper 4: A level structured questions A level
  • Paper 5: Planning, analysis and evaluation A level

Papers 3 and 5 are about practical skills on paper, which many students leave too late. We practise them from the start.

Pearson Edexcel International A level Physics

  • Unit 1: Mechanics and Materials AS
  • Unit 2: Waves and Electricity AS
  • Unit 3: Practical Skills I AS
  • Unit 4: Further Mechanics, Fields and Particles A2
  • Unit 5: Thermodynamics, Radiation, Oscillations and Cosmology A2
  • Unit 6: Practical Skills II A2

A modular course: you can sit units in different exam series and resit them, so we plan lessons around the units you are taking next.

How we plan your A level Physics

Adapted to your free review: we spend the time where your marks are.

  1. DiagnoseYour free paper review: which marks went on physics, which on maths, and which on reading the question.
  2. Year 1 foundationsMechanics, materials, waves and electricity, with the maths behind them: rearranging, units, vectors and graphs.
  3. Year 2 topicsCircular motion, oscillations, gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, capacitors, thermal and nuclear physics.
  4. Practical skillsUncertainties, graphs, and the practical questions in the written papers, matched to your board's practicals.
  5. Exam papersTimed past papers, marked against the official mark scheme, with an error log of every lost mark.

Mechanics

A ball is kicked from level ground at 18 m s−1, at 30° above the horizontal. Ignoring air resistance, how far from the kick does it land? (g = 9.81 m s−2)

  1. 14.3 m
  2. 16.5 m
  3. 28.6 m
  4. 33.0 m
Show the worked solution
  1. Split the velocity: horizontal 18 cos 30° = 15.6 m s−1, vertical 18 sin 30° = 9.0 m s−1.
  2. Time of flight from the vertical motion: 0 = 9.0t − ½ × 9.81t2, so t = 1.83 s.
  3. Horizontal distance = 15.6 × 1.83 = 28.6 m.
  4. Answer: C. Option D is the range at 45°, the angle that gives the greatest range, not at 30°.

Electricity

A battery of e.m.f. 12 V and internal resistance 0.50 Ω is connected to a 5.5 Ω resistor. What is the terminal potential difference?

  1. 1.0 V
  2. 11 V
  3. 12 V
  4. 13 V
Show the worked solution
  1. Total resistance = 5.5 + 0.50 = 6.0 Ω, so the current is I = 12/6.0 = 2.0 A.
  2. The “lost volts” across the internal resistance are Ir = 2.0 × 0.50 = 1.0 V.
  3. Terminal p.d. = ε − Ir = 12 − 1.0 = 11 V.
  4. Answer: B. Option A is the lost volts, not the terminal p.d.
